Two new UN reports regarding Juvenile Justice:
1. In the first report, on the Death Penalty,pages 13-14 deal with use of thedeath penalty on children. Also, page 7 says: “The Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in theIslamic Republic of Iran has reported that there were 670 executions in Iran in 2011, ofwhich 81 per cent were of drug offenders, including people believed to bechildren under 18 at the time the offence was committed.”
2. The second report, on Juvenile Justice, mentionschildren on page 13.Note 37 says: “The Committee onthe Rights of the Child has expressed its concern about such sentencing toStates including Brunei Darrussalam, IslamicRepublic of Iran, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen, andhas recommended that these countries change their laws to make these sentencesunlawful.”
